Genre of the Month

"Genre of the Month"

Each month will feature a different “Genre of the Month”. Students are encouraged to explore books from a variety of genres throughout the school year. Your child is not required to read a book from the recommended genre, but if you reads at least one book for W.E.B. from the featured genre of the month, you will earn a bonus prize at the end of the month.

Here are the different genres and some information about each of them. Click on the genre for more information and book titles. Click here to view some other useful links.

Month	Genre	Description
September	Realistic Fiction	*A story using made-up characters* *but could happen in real life*
October	Mystery	A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story
November	Informational	Texts that provide facts about a variety of topics.
December	Historical Fiction	A story using made-up characters that takes place in a real time or setting from the past
January	Biography and Autobiography	Biography- A story of a real person’s life that is written by another person Autobiography- A story of a real person’s life that is written by that person
February	Fantasy	A story including elements that are impossible, such as talking animals or magical powers
March	Poetry	*Verse written to create a response of thought and feeling from the reader. It often uses rhythm and rhyme.*
April	Science Fiction	A story that blends futuristic technology with scientific fact and fiction
May	Traditional Literature	A made-up story about a historical figure or everyday people that was originally passed along by word of mouth
